When posting in the Shadow forums and discussion groups, I
often get enquiries regarding the boot box (or trunk) I have fitted to my bike.
The sheer volume of these requests are the initial impetus for this website!
Just note that we (In Australia) tend to call it a "boot box", in the
US you have "hoods" and "trunks" on your cars, while we have
"bonnets" and "boots". I
include the standard response to these enquiries below for your information,
should you too be curious about the unit...
The boot box (/trunk) is fantastic. I have to
say that I could not be happier with the box. It fits a helmet inside which
makes it easy to lock up both mine and my wife's helmet, but most of the time I/
we use it to carry stuff in. The unit is constructed out of thick, sturdy
plastic, with the base actually thicker than the lid. It has taken any weight I
have managed to put into it (i.e. a lot). It has a keyed lock, with one button
releasing the lid and another releasing the entire box from the base unit. A
handle folds out of the back to carry the box with. It is also waterproof (and my wife
and I have driven in some mean storms lately) and has integral rubber standoffs
which isolate it from vibration.
The boot box (trunk, whatever) is actually called a "BOOX" (which is
embossed lightly on the lid). It is made by Polisport (a plastics manufacturer
in Europe I believe). Inside the box is printed "REF 872.0", I just
picked it up at one of the local Honda dealers. I live in Brisbane, Queensland,
Australia. Update: Polisport now have a website, but they do not show the colors that I
saw available years ago. Their site is:

There's a couple more shots of the box shown
at the Australian importer:

The box looks great on the bike, and looks as if it were made specifically
for the bike. The rack and rack brackets on my bike are the Honda ones. The
Honda sissy bar will not fit with the box on, as it leans over the rack too
much. My wife has found the box equally comfortable to sit against though.
I am not aware of where you can purchase the boxes in North America, I would
recommend asking your local dealer about getting one in and provide them
with the details above. It was priced at AUD$130.oo, which would equate to
about US$76.oo at the current exchange rate. The dealer was having a bit of a sale
(and the guy behind the counter decided he liked me), and it actually ending
up costing me AUD$100.oo, so that's less than $60.oo US.
