Melody Wizard - Known Bugs and Limitations |
Being
Beta software, we all know there are going to be issues.
Please remember to email me any bugs or program
suggestions. Please also remember that the program is
already quite large (and quite complex), and I'm not
Microsoft :-)

 |
Limitations...
| 1. Only 800 Pixel
Wide Screens or Better Support. The
software will only start if your screen
resolution is at least 800 pixels wide,
sorry. As this is the standard in
computers today, this should not cause
grief for too many users...
Also, if you have screen
fonts set to larger than the "Normal"
size of 96 dpi then the main dialog may
not fully fit on screen (this is not
unique to my software).
|
| 2. The "Dirty"
Flag is Over-Sensitive. The
Dirty Flag, the variable that tells the
software if you have made modifications,
is sensitive to some events which do not
necessarily mean you have changed the
SoundScape.
Not really a problem as far
as I am concerned. Due to the complexity
of the file format, its hard to tell if
its been changed... unless a byte-by-byte
comparison is used.
|
| 4. No "Optimise"
Button is Implemented. Grzegorz
Gigol suggested that an Optimise feature
be incorporated into the software. Due to
the complexity of the code that would be
required here, I have not as yet written
this.
This feature would, in
effect, try to make the SoundScape
smaller by finding methods to write the
SoundScape more efficiently than the User
had laid it out originally.
|
| 5. Note Length
"2" is not quite 2 beats. The
"2" Beats Note is not quite 2
beats, but is actually 1 7/8 beats. The
file format does not support a note
longer than this.
Due to the length intervals,
and the fact that this was almost 2
beats, I have included it anyway. For
practical purposes this should be quite
adequate.
|
| 6. Notes are not
Tonally Accurate. No,
they're not. Call Timex. The notes
contained in the watch are widely
dispersed tonally, an accurate placing
would require a score many times taller,
would be ridiculous to work with and
serve no purpose.
Instead all the notes have
been placed relationally accurate but not
tonally so. I have then added accurate
tonal information for each note (this
appears in the Hints box).
|
| 7. Use of Melody
Offsets Not Implemented. It
is possible to point to a location within
a melody, therefore using only part of
the Melody. The reason you would do this
is to conserve space. I was reminded of
this by someones email the other day. I
would propose incorporating an offset
feature in the software in order to take
advantage of this possibility. This may
take some time to implement as the read-in
code would also have to be completely
rewritten.

Yet... I
did not release the software with any
bugs I knew of...

He hasn't listed THIS bug... Well email it to
