How can I get my CD to autorun faster?

The speed at which a CD will start to autorun depends on two things. First, it depends on the speed of the CD-ROM drive, a slow drive will open a CD slower than a fast one. Far greater than this influence however is just what format your CD is in. CD-ROM drives do a serial search for the format of the CD. I believe the first they test for is an audio CD (like a music CD), next they check for an ISO9660 format CD, and on down a long list of CD formats until it gets to yours.

If you wish your CD to autorun quickly, it is best to burn the CD in ISO9660 format. Note that this prevents you from using long filenames, but you will find that 99.9% of commercially released CDs are in this format, for very good reason.

You can also find that some CD drives cannot read some CDR formats, so ISO9660 is a fundamental choice when you are unsure of your target audience.
